CSU Sacramento – B.S. Business – Management Information Systems
Cosumnes River College – A. S. Computer Science
Gianna was concurrently enrolled at both Sacramento State to earn her Baccalaureate as well as being enrolled at Cosumnes River College to work towards earning her Associate of Science degree. She has been a well-rounded student with extracurricular activities and professional employment. She was recently recruited for early post-graduate employment by a company in her chosen field.
This is her student story…
Gianna is the 5th child in her family, as a high school student she said, “one by one, I’ve seen all of my older siblings graduate from high school, and stop…struggling while they try to make it on their own.”
Gianna is an academically committed and well rounded young woman. In high school she was involved in basketball, volleyball, crafts, music, and student government. She realized her potential in high school, excelling in courses such as Pre-Calculus as a sophomore. “I don’t want to work a job I dislike just to get by. Instead, I’d like to continue my education and enable myself to pursue a career I’m passionate about…I know it will be difficult to break the cycle, but I am determined to do so,” said Gianna, “I want to able to say that I followed my dreams and encourage other kids like me not to give up.”
Gianna reached college admission, but even went beyond to seek to form her own program of study from two campuses. Gianna is concurrently enrolled at both Sacramento State to earn her Baccalaureate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management Information Systems (MIS), as well as being enrolled at Cosumnes River College to work towards earning her Associate of Science degree in Computer Science.
Continuing with her focus on being academically committed by regularly earning a spot on the CSUS Deans Honor List. She is also still well-rounded with extracurricular activities, working with the Sac State radio and student in leadership. During Fall 2016 semester, Gianna became the Loud Rock Music Director at KSSU and the Vice President of the Management Information Systems Association.
In addition to her campus involvements, she participated in a internship scholarship program through a VSP and Future Sacramento partnership. “I’m grateful to have the opportunity to work for VSP because I’ve learned a lot of new skills, learned about myself, and met a ton of awesome people. I recently switched to the Test Engineering team, where they take a consultative approach to helping other teams determine their testing strategies. This might be my favorite team I’ve worked with yet! I switched to this team in November and have already exercised gathering business requirements, designing and interpreting business processes, determining implementation strategies, familiarizing myself with the current testing frameworks set in place, and programming small projects.”
